Who knew that there are such BIG and BEAUTIFUL mountains so close to Pisa?? (I was able to get this shot because we missed the bus stop for the Piazza dei Miracoli and ended up on a roundabout tour of the fringes of Pisa).

Constructed on the same unstable sand as the Tower, the Baptistry (left) leans 0.6 degrees toward the cathedral. It's the largest baptistry in Italy.

Construction of the first floor of the white marble campanile began on August 9, 1173. The tower started to lean almost immediately.
Just kidding... the tower actually leans at an angle of 3.97 degrees. This means that the top of the tower is 3.9 meters (or 12.7952 feet) from where it would stand if the tower were perfectly vertical
From this angle, it doesn't look like it's leaning at all!
Construction of the Duomo began in 1064.
